Description
AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY SILVER MARROW SCOOP BY PAUL HANET, Hanet was of Huguenot descent and was held in high regard as a silversmith in the 18th century. Describe by Grimwade (London Goldsmiths, page 532) – ‘the evidence of the survival of pieces bearing his mark, Hanet was clearly one of the principal Huguenot spoon makers of his day’. His first London mark is noted as 1716 and it is thought he worked until around 1732. The scoop we present to you is double ended with a wide scoop to one end and a narrower scoop to the other. Of simple form and design, hallmarked to the stem at the centre with London details, including date letter of ‘M’ for 1727 and the maker’s mark of P.H. 20cm long, weight: 45grams.
